John was the youngest of two children of Robert Henderson McCorquodale (born 1893 in Renfrewshire, Scotland) and Isabella Currie Baxter (born 1895 in Renfrewshire, Scotland). Robert - a Marine Engineer - and Isabella married in 1920 in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The family immigrated in 1926, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Vedic. The family settled in Oxley, Brisbane where Robert worked as a Fitter until his death in 1932.
John was an Apprentice (Third year) Lithographic Printer when he enlisted in the Army in December 1941. He served as a Private and Lance Corporal (Service No:Q145416) with 37/52nd, 61st, and 58/59th Infantry Battalions. John was in New Guinea (16/05/1943 - 31/07/1944) and Bougainville (22/02/1945 - 12/01/1946) and was WiA in May 1942. He was a Private attached to 58/59 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in January 1946. Brother Robert Henderson McCorquodale (Service No:Q27667) and Brothers-in-Law Hector (Service No:Q47829) and Allan Mercer (QX53107), and Alwyn McLean (Service No:QX54831), and Father-in-Law Thomas Thomson Mercer (Service Nos:Q16420/Q89366) also served in WWII.
In 1950 John was living in Oxley, Brisbane and working as a Lithographer when he married Catherine Robina Mercer (born 1930 in Ipswich, QLD). John and Catherine lived in Brisbane (Oxley, Goodna) where John worked as a Lithographer/Printer. Catherine died in 1972 and John in 1974.
