Sam was the seventh of fourteen children of Samuel Mole Snr (born 1839 in Staffordshire, England) and Sarah Ann Champ (born 1849 in Berkshire, England). Samuel Snr was twelve years of age when he started work as a Coal Miner, and in 1859 he arrived in Brisbane, QLD on board the Glentanner. Sarah arrived on the same ship and they married in 1866 in Brisbane. Samuel and Sarah settled at Albany Creek, where Samuel was a Farmer on Gum Tree Farm.

Sam was working as a Labourer at Toowoomba on the Darling Downs in 1906 when he married Alice May Walker (born 1880 in Brisbane, QLD). Sam and Alice lived in Toowoomba and Maryborough, where Sam was a Labourer. In 1910 Sam was a Butcher in Toowoomba, and in 1917 the family moved to Eudlo near Nambour, QLD where Sam was a Farmer until the late 1930's.

Sam was a Council Employee in Maroochydore in 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF. He was a Lance Corporal (Service No:Q205236) with 6 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (QLD) when he was Discharged in 1945 at the age of 65.
