Henry was the fifth of six children of John (Jack) Joseph Molloy (born 1880 in Newtown, Ipswich, QLD) and Amelia Cawthray (born 1885 in Brisbane, QLD). Jack was a Coal Miner in Ipswich in 1905 when he married Amelia. Jack and Amelia settled in Ipswich and Jack worked as a Miner until 1910, when he worked as a Carter.

Henry was working as a Labourer in Ipswich, QLD when he enlsited in the Army in December 1941.Henry was a Private (Service No:QX26183) attached to the 62nd Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in January 1944. The 62nd Battalion was raised in 1942 in the Torres Strait and was known as the 'Merauke Regiment'. The Battalion sailed to Merauke in Dutch New Guinea in January 1943, tasked with holding the airstrip and port, patrolling the coast, bulding defences and unloading ships. The 62nd returned to Brisbane in March 1944 and was disbanded in May that year (Australian War Memorial).

Henry returned to Ipswich where he worked as a Labourer until his death in 1978.
