David's mother on his QLD Birth Certificate is Margaret Nethercote of Ipswich, QLD, and in his Attestation Papers his father is listed as William Nethercote of Wynnum, QLD.

David served in the ACMF - from 1926 - 1931 with 5th Field Battery as a Private (Service No: Q9848).During this time he was living in Wynnum in QLD and working as a Labourer. He married Harriet Mary Coles (born 1911 in Brisbane, QLD) in 1930 in Toowoomba, QLD. David then served briefly in 1941 with the Australian Army as a Private (Service No: QX12787) and was Discharged on medical grounds. In October 1942 he enlisted in the RAAF in Brisbane, QLD and served as an Aircraftman, Powder Monkey and Plant Operator (Service No: 79000) in New Guinea.

Davids brothers in law - John Lewis (Service No: Q45922)and Willie (Service No: B3255)Coles, and Michael Frawley (Service Nos Q146699/Q104978/QX37306) - also served in WWII

Following his Discharge, Davied and Harriet lived briefly in Wynnum, QLD where David worked as a Tool Sharpener, The family moved to Toowoomba in QLD where David worked as a Tool Sharpener. David died in 1971 and Harriet in 1983
