'HUTTON, Ben Percy Clement. Staff Sergeant, No. 7069, 25th and 24th Battalions. Born at Cometville in 1882. Third son of the late Mr. Benjamin and Mrs. Edith Hutton, of "Glen Hutton," Helidon. He was educated by private study. On 30th December, 1922, he was married to Miss Wootton. Enlisted on 21st August and embarked on 15th November, 1917, for Egypt, where he went into hospital. Upon recovery, was drafted to England through France. He then went to France to the front line of trenches, where he remained till the signing of the Armistice. Invalided to England seriously ill, and on recovery, sent to Sutton Veny, Wilts., to recuperate. He was then detailed for special duty at Portland Fortress. Then took up a course of instruction on cattle and general stock breeding on the General Staff, and received a certificate from Brigadier-General W. Ramsay McNicoll, Director of Education of A.I.F., as a good practical instructor. Arrived in Australia on 30th October, 1919, per M.H.A.T. "Raranga," and has resumed his former pursuit as grazier.' from Queenslanders Who Fought in the Great War (nla.gov.au)
