Add my storyBiography
Prior to embarkation, Arthur lived at his sister's address in Rose Street, Fitzroy. Northey family lore has it that Arthur was engaged to Dolly Northey but that the engagement was broken since she had an illness. His name was on a postcard Frank sent to his family.
Dolly's brother Frank (4178 Pte. Francis Harrup Northey (/explore/people/54711)) remained his friend, and they both served in the 22nd Infantry Battalion.
Frank Northey was killed in action at Bullecourt on 03 May 1917, while Arthur Woodward suffered a gunshot wound to the scrotum on the same day, an injury which claimed his life 3 weeks later on 21 May 1917
