Births Sep 1887 Bradley Charles Basil Newark 7b 425.
Charles was the only son of George Alfred, a merchant’s clerk and Kate Bradley of Stone Cottage, Newark. In the 1901 census the family are living in Farndon; however by the 1911 census they are living at 4 Stone Terrace, Newark, Charles was then 14 years of age and an agricultural farm labourer. Charles emigrated to Australia and settled in New South Wales.
In 1915 while still living in New South Wales Charles enlisted in the Australian Army and served in 8th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps.
Enlistment date 19 April 1915
Date of enlistment from Nominal Roll-27 April 1915 He served in England, Convalescent Depot, Harefield Park, London, and Special Reinforcements (Feb 1915 - March 1916), AAMC Reinforcements. Attached to Great Peter Street (London) Convalescent Hospital, 1915-16; to No. 1 AGH later. Joined the 8th Field Ambulance, 4 May 1917. Egypt and then in France. He was killed whilst working as a stretcher bearer under fierce enemy bombardment on the night of the 21st September 1917
a.k.a. ""C G"". Article published on 31st October 1917 in the Newark Advertiser :- Youngest son of Mr. George Alfred Bradley, 4 Stone Terrace, Victoria Street, Newark. A former employee of Ransome & Co., but emigrated several years ago. Enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, in the Australian RAMC and served in Egypt, then England, before going to France. Engaged on his duties as a stretcher-bearer on the night of Sept. 21st when German shelling began and he was posted missing.
