Private Norman John Arthur Crocker (Service No:3534) enlisted in the AIF on 26 July 1915 and was attached to 8th Infantry Battalion on 11 October 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne bound for Egypt on board HMAT A71 Nestor. Private Crocker transferred to 59th Infantry Battalion and served in Zeitoun and Tel-el-Kebir before embarking with 57th Infantry Battalion from Alexandria for Marseilles on 17 June 1916 on board HT Kalyan. Private Crocker served on the Western Front with 57th Infantry Battalion and was hospitalised on three occassions - in August 1916 at County of London War Hospital with GSW to shoulder and leg; in May 1917 at Royal Victoria Hospital with Shell Shock and Trench Fever and in 1918 with Diptheria. On 8 May 1919 Private Crocker embarked from England for Melbourne on board the Devanha and was attached to 57th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 15 August 1919. He later served in WWII as a Lance Corporal with 17 Garrison Battalion (Service No:V4900).
Born in Geelong, Victoria in 1892, Norm was eldest of five children of Thomas Crocker (b1868 in Happy Valley, South Australia) and his first wife Ann (Annie) Steer (b1856 in Geelong, Victoria). Thomas was a Farm Labourer in 1891 when he and Annie married in Geelong. They lived in Warracknabeal, Willenabrina and Hopetoun where they raised their family and Thomas was a Farm Labourer. Following Annie's death in 1926, Thomas remarried in 1935 in Melbourne to Sarah Frances Mooney (nee Harris; b1880 in Williamstown, Victoria). Thomas died in 1959 and Sarah in 1972.
Norm worked as a Farm Labourer at Pepper's Plains and Dromana and was in Warracknabeal in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, Norm worked as a Labourer in Brim via Warracknabela and in 1922 was a Farmer when he married Amelia (Millie) May McPherson (b1899 in Warracknabeal, Victoria). Norm and Millie lived in Wirrbibial, Brim and Angip where they raised their family and Norm was a Farmer. By 1937 they had settled in Warracknabeal where Norm worked as a Labourer and Caretaker, and served in the ACMF in WWII. Norm died in 1979 and Millie in 1993.
