TASMANIA AMONG THE FIRST ASHORE.
Pte (Sgt) Archibald Henry REYNOLDS
The first Anzacs to touch shore at Gallipoli were proud Queenslanders from the 9th Battalion. However, also standing among their ranks, was a young larrikin recruit from Glenorchy, Tasmania, Private Archie Reynolds. He was the youngest member of the first boat, and as a 4th generation Tasmanian with convict ancestry, perhaps the most Australian. Before Gallipoli, his Australian identity was already fiercely strong. Archie served 4 years and 35 days overseas.
