His older brother, 438 Lce. Serjt. Herbert Greay also enlisted the 28th Battalion AIF. They both served at Gallipoli from September 1915 and the 28th Battalion’s first action in France was at Pozieres during July and August 1916. Both brothers were reported missing in the battle on 29 July 1916. Herbert and Sansom died at the same battle and on the same day.
