"Hacky" Couchman stopped part of a bomb with his little finger, then he took a whiff of German gas, and probably gave vent to H.E. language when a "Squarehead" hit him in the mouth with a sandbag and left him minus four teeth. Scotch College Reporter - Oct 5, 1916
Biography contributed by Jeremy Nunn
Douglas fought in both Egypt and France during WW1. During the campaign in France, he fought side by side with his father Captain Charles Couchman.
After the war, he married Violet Blurton, an art teacher who only taught privately. Douglas became a bank manager. Together they had three daughters: Dorothy, Barbara and Joan.
Douglas went to Scotch College Perth (graduating in 1909) and was the cox of the rowing and also did boxing.
