Private Thomas George Vines (Service No:Q45613) enlisted in the ACMF on 24 August 1940. Private Vines embarked for Port Moresby with the Provost Corps on 27 December 1941, then embarked from Port Moresby for Brisbane on 29 January 1942 on board MV Macdhui. Private Vines was Discharged (Medically Unfit) on 13 March 1942.

Born in 1919 in Brisbane QLD, Tom was the fifth of seven children of Thomas (Curly) Henry Vines (b1880 at Vegetable Creek, Emmaville, NSW) and Margaret Agnes Gurowski (b1888 at Caboolture, QLD). Curly (a Labourer) and Margaret married in 1906 in Brisbane, QLD and settled at Nundah where they raised their family and Curly worked as a Labourer.

Tom worked as a Waterside Worker in Brisbane before enlisting in the ACMF, and following his Discharge was in Gympie in 1947 when all his belongings were destroyed in a hotel fire. In 1948 in Brisbane, Tom married Alma (Leslie) Lestrine Hession (nee Genninges; b1907 in Toowoomba, QLD). Tom and Leslie settled at Nundah where Tom was a Waterside Worker before moving to Chermside where Tom worked as a Crane Driver. Tom died in 1969 and Leslie in 1976.
