Biography

"Trooper Lloyd. Permanently Disabled. Seven Months Netley Hospital.

Trooper W. M. Lloyd, the son of Mr. W. M. Lloyd, for many years manager of the South British Insurance Company, who joined the second contingent, and was badly wouuded near the Vet River in the advance from Bloemfontein, returned to Queensland, via Sydney, by the Austral, a few days ago. Mr. Lloyd's wound was a very dangerous one, in fact he appears to have been the hardest hit of all the Queenslanders. From the Cape he was invalided to Netley Hospital in April of last year, where he remained seven months, and was discharged as incurable at the end of February. From there he went to the London Hospital, where he underwent an operation, and remained five weeks. The operation was only partially successful, and he has returned to Queensland a disabled man, having entirely lost the use of his left arm." - from the Brisbane Telegraph 19 Jul 1901 (nla.gov.au)
