Alexander Allan was born on 29 Jul 1878 at Aberdeen, Scotland, a son to Alexander Allan and Ann Allan (nee Burgess). He married Fanny Lord Dewhouse on 27 Jan 1912 in Queensland and they had 5 children while residing at Ipswich, Queensland.
When he enlisted in 1901 with the 6th QIB for the South African (Boer) War he noted his N.O.K. as A. Allan, Spring Hill, Brisbane. He enlisted again for WW1 in 1918, however, never embarked. On that enlistment Attestation Paper he noted his birth in Scotland, his previous Boer War service in the 6th QIB, he worked as a Railway Guard, that he was married to Fanny Alexander, and they lived with 3 children at Thallon St, West Ipswich.
