As per his enlistment papers Sydney is recorded as being born in 1878 at Rydal near Bathurst NSW. His occupation on enlistment was recorded as Drover.
The New South Wales Imperial Bushmen embarked from Sydney on the 23rd April 1900 aboard the ‘Armenian’.
The bars awarded for his service gave a basic outline of where he and the New South Wales Imperial Bushmen were during his time in South Africa, however there is little specifics. He was recorded in various letters by fellow soldiers including Adam Murray (veteran of the Sudan).
The New South Wales Imperial Bushmen left South Africa and returned via London, they and disembarked from the ship ‘Orient’ on the 23rd June 1901.
