William Henry Augustus Bartlet was born 27 Sep 1881 in Queensland, Australia, a son to Thomas Bartlett and Emily Elizabeth Bartlett (nee Bowyer).
He served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 334 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, second as a Private S.N. 25 in the 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse.
