George Henry Bennett was born in 1872 at Hargraves in the Mudgee District of New South Wales, a son to John and Anne Bennett. He was single when he enlisted for WW1 in 1916.

He served twice in the South African (Boer) War and again in WW1 where he died of wounds in France. His first service was as a Private S.N. 185 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Lance-Corporal S.N. 1933 in the 3rd Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse, Boer War. Third service was as a Private S.N. 5307 in the 26th Infantry Battalion AIF, WW1.
