Harry H. Bettany is noted in a newspaper report of his death as having been born in 1881 in Australia. Following completion of the South African (Boer) War tour by the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, and prior to their return to Australia, he may be the Private H. Bettany S.N. 527 that enrolled in South Africa with the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (Murray p. 504).
After the Boer War he ventured to Canada residing in various parts prior to settling at Peace River in Alberta in 1914. He operated a bakery at Peace River and a grocery and bakery at Whitelaw. He passed away on 16 Mar 1950 at the Fairview Municipal Hospital after a long illness. He is interred at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Peace River, Alberta, Canada.
