William Pearce Boydell was born on 6 Feb 1877 at Warialda, New South Wales, a son to John Francis Boydell and Jessie Boydell (nee Pearce).
Prior to enlisting for the South African (Boer) War he was a Station Manager at St. George. He was discharged in South Africa and spent about 5 years there before returning to New South Wales where he married Jessie M. Crossing in Sydney. He selected 'Wenna' near Moree where they remained some 20 years.
