William Robert Bruce served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Farrier S.N. 91 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (middle name spelt Robit on nominal roll), second as a Farrier-Sergeant S.N. 354 in the 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse.
