29 / Lt. Hugh Stonor Burn (/explore/people/283634) - returned to Australia;
38 Pte. William Castle Burn - Served with the Queensland Imperial Bushmen during the Boer War.
'GENERAL NEWS.
Troopers G. Horsburgh, junr., and W. C. Burn, who went to South Africa, with the fourth Queensland Contingent, returned home by train from Brisbane on Saturday afternoon last, rather, unexpectedly. However, a good few towns-people, including the parents and relatives of the returned Troopers, gave them a hearty welcome home. A few Q.D.F. and Naval Cadets were in attendance, and carried the returned soldiers shoulder high through the streets to the Queen's Hotel. Here Mayor Rabaa welcomed them home, and Trooper Burn suitably replied. 'GENERAL NEWS.
'A' Company, 2nd Regiment, Q.D.F., held a very successful social dance in the Oddfellows' Hall last night. There were about 70 couples present, and the night was a very pleasant one for dancing, which was entered into with great spirit. The hall was decorated with bunting and star bayonets, while the colours of the Regiment with piled arms were displayed. Troopers Bert Watson, G. Horsburgh, J. Turner, and W. Burn, who returned recently from South Africa, were the guests of 'A' Company at the gathering, and seemed to enjoy themselves.
Sergeant Major Stronach and Quartermaster Sergeant Armstrong, of Bundaberg, carried out the decorations. The officers present were— Captain White (Adjutant of the 2nd Regiment), Captain W. J. Finemore, Lieutenants R. Hockley , and A. Horeburgh. The Military Band, under Band master Hail, provided the music, which was excellent, and Captain J. W. Finemore and Sergeant W.
