When Arthur Chardon enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. J. Chardon, Yatala Hotel, Yatala, Beenleigh. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB held by Qld State Archives it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. J. Chardon, Yatala Hotel, Yatala, Beenleigh.

Arthur Chardon was born on 17 Feb 1883 in Queensland, a son and one of 13 children to Peter Franz Chardon and Jane Chardon (nee Lea). His parents were were well known Licensed Victuallers.
