Thomas Henry Michael Cox was born in 1884 at Westmeath, Ireland, a son to Ralph Joseph Cox and Ellen Cox (nee Kelly). He married Mary Catherine Josephine Lyons on 23 Sep 1916 in Brisbane and they had 3 children.

In 1924 he started working for the Truth and Sportsman newspapers in Brisbane remaining with them for the rest of his working life. His funeral notice notes his Boer War service and also indicates he served with the 1st AIF in WW1, however, no record can be found of this service.
