Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When George Olive Donald enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his photo was published with the rank and file in The Queenslander newspaper, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father Thomas Donald, South Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for 5th QIB held by the Qld State Archives he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. E. Donald, Cordelia Street, South Brisbane.

George Olive Donald was born on 19 Dec 1879 in Brisbane, a son to Thomas Donald and Eliza Donald (nee Olive). He married Henrietta Wilhelmina Helena Schmalz on 11 Feb 1914 at the People's Evangelistic Mission, Fortitude Valley and they had 2 children.

He also served a second time in the South African (Boer War), Private S.N. 46 in the 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse. He again served in WW1, Private S.N. 324 in the 9th Infantry Battalion AIF. When he enlisted for WW1 he noted on his Attestation Paper his previous two services in the Boer War and he was living at Stones Corner working as a Lorryman.
