Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

A BOER WAR VETERAN.
An "old school mate" writes: For some weeks Mr. N.E. Dowzer has been confined to his home on account of a very severe illness, and those who may not know him I wish to intimate that away back in 1899 he was one of a band of young men from the Tiaro district who offered their services to the Empire at the time of the Boer War. He served his country there in two different centuries and under two of our British rulers — at the close of Queen Victoria's reign and then under King Edward 7th. He is a native of Maryborough, his people removing later on to Tiaro where he finished his school at the present Tiaro State School, and for many years afterwards resided in that district. It was he who first got together the Tiaro squad of mounted infantry whose headquarters were at Gympie. Probably some of his brothers-in-arms who composed part of that contingent, or those of  later military obligations, will find time to call and help a comrade to the lonely hours. Any one for that matter will be welcomed at his residence, No. 74 Fort Lane, off Alice-street, city.
