When Walter Arthur Edgar enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs W. Edgar, Surrey Hills, Sydney. In the Boer War Service Paybooks Bk 1, p. 48, for the 5th QIB held by Qld State Archives it notes he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. M. A. Edgar, Surrey Hills, Sydney.

Walter Arthur Edgar was born on 26 Nov 1876 in Forbes Shire, New South Wales, a son to William Edgar and Mary Ann Edgar (nee Barnes). He married Alma Irene Tate on 19 Mar 1908 in Queensland and they had 2 children. He resided in the district around Dalby where he worked on stations, lastly as the Station Manager at Daandine near Dalby, and was residing in Dalby when he passed.
