John Norman Victor McLean Ferguson was born on 12 Nov 1874 at Stanthorpe, Queensland, a son (one of children) to William Ferguson and Emily Ferguson (nee Deacon). On his return from the South African (Boer) War he married Kathleen Heusler on 6 Nov 1903 in Queensland and they had 1 child while still residing in Queensland.

He relocated to Canada prior to WW1. He enlisted again in WW1 serving with Canadian Forces, Canadian Infantry (Corporal S.N. 791, Eastern Ontario Regiment), in Belgium. He was killed in action at Ypres on 2 Jun 1916 and is memorialised on the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial, Belgium.

When he enlisted in Canada on his Attestation Form (27 Aug 1914) he noted- his N.O.K. mother Mrs E. Ferguson, Brisbane, Qld; was born 12 Nov 1877 at Stanthorpe; he was a Locomotive Engineer; was now not married; and previously served in Boer War with 5th QIB.
