Evelyn Alexander Wilson Ffrench who was killed while flying near Hounslow, England, on 23rd December 1918 was the son of Mr. Acheson Evelyn and Marion Ffrench.. He was born in 1878 and was at the Preparatory School in 1889 and 1890. He saw active service in the South African War with the Fourth Australian Imperial Contingent, in which he was a Lieutenant, and was in the operations in Rhodesia and the Transvaal, and was there given a commission in the Royal Artillery. Subsequently he had many adventures and experiences in Europe as a journalist, and when war broke out he rejoined his old regiment. He was subsequently wounded. Later he joined the Royal Air Force, and was flying when he met with a fatal accident.
