Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Charles George Gehrmann was born on 24 Jul 1874 at Ipswich, Queensland, a son to August Frederick Gehrmann and Christina Gehrmann (nee Low). He married Alice Maud Shaw on 9 Oct 1911 in Brisbane and they had 3 children.

He had an interest in photography and some of his photos documenting service of the 5th QIB in the Boer War are held by the AWM in their collections-media, see link on this profile. After serving in the South African (Boer) War he returned to the Brisbane area where it appears he qualified as an accountant. Refer to United Service Club, History & Heritage Notes link for expanded biography.
