OBITUARY W.J.CORE. WILLIAM JOHN CORE, who died last week at the age of 74, and was buried at Hemmant on Tuesday, was an old A.W.U. stalwart. He came to Australia from Wales as a babe. His early life was spent at Gladstone. In Brisbane later he became associated with the late Ted. Hanson. He worked at Mt. Morgan mines, where he enlisted for the Boer War. At Mt. Morgan, he was active in political and A.W.U. affairs, and was campaign director for the late Jim Stopford. He was a member of the Mt. Morgan Hospitals Board. Returning to Brisbane in the '20's, he worked on the tramways. As a committeeman for the Sth. African War Veterans' Association, he secured many privileges for his aged associates. A staunch supporter of Labor, he practised what he preached. The late Mr. Core is survived by his widow, four sons (Vince Core is a member of the 'Worker' staff), three daughters and two younger brothers and sisters.
