OBITUARY.
LATE MR. JOHN THOMAS (JACK)
HAYES.
Death removed from our midst a much respected and popular identity of Toowoomba in the person of Mr. John Thomas (Jack) Hayes. Deceased met with an accident on Christmas Eve by colliding with a motor cycle and after much suffering he passed away in the early hours of December 29. Deceased was born in Toowoomba 44 years ago and was the eldest son of the late Mr. Morgan Hayes and Mrs. Hayes (Brisbane), formerly of Pittsworth. He was a very popular man and was of a quiet reserved nature. He had a very large number of personal friends. Deceased saw several years' service with the Australian troops in South Africa during the Boer War.
His father died about 2 years ago. One brother, Patrick (a returned soldier) also predeceased him. The pall-bearers were mates who played with him in childhood's happy hours, mates through life and true friends until death. On August 25, 1914, deceased was married to Miss Bee Byrne (youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Byrne, of Crow's Nest.) He leaves to mourn their loss a sorrowing widow, his mother, one brother and four sisters, to whom our sincerest sympathy is extended.
Wreaths were received from:—His loving wife, Cutler and Brady families, Mr. and Mrs. W. Hanlon, Mr. and Mrs. Faulkner, Mr. and Mrs. W. Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Sharry and family, Mr. and Mrs. L.
