DEATH OF CR. HOLDSWORTH.
Military and Civic Services.
Councillor Albert Armytage Holdsworth, D.S.O., V.D. of Kenilworth grove, East Malvern died in a private hospital last evening. Councillor Holdsworth who was a native of Bendigo, had been one of the representatives of the Toorak Ward in the Prahan City Council for many years. His first service as a member of the council was before the war. When the war broke out Councillor Holdsworth enlisted. He had seen active service in the South African War, in which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He served throughout the Great War. He was in command of a motor transport unit, and was mentioned in despatches for service both in Egypt and France. On his return from active service he resumed his interest in civic affairs, and was re-elected to the Prahan Council. He became mayor in 1926. The acquisition by the council of the Como Estate at the corner of Williams road and the Boulevard, as a public park was due largely to Councillor Holdsworth's representations. He represented the council at the Municipal Gas Conference. He will be remembered as a pioneer of all-night bus services the first of which he inaugurated from Melbourne to Prahran in 1912. Councillor Holdsworth, who held the rank of colonel on the retired list of officers, was twice married. He leaves a widow and one daughter and two sons.
