Jesse Horley served twice in the Boer War, first as a Private S.N. 72 in the 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry and then secondly as a Private S.N. 630 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen. He remained in South Africa for further service when the remainder of the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen embarked on 17 May 1902 to return to Australia, his date of actual discharge is unknown.
