Claude Hugonin served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 17 in the 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry, second as a Lieutenant in the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 460 and 492).
