Came to South Australia 1891 to gain experience as a "Jackaroo." In 1895, went into partnership and held the lease on Oakden Hills, Monalena and Yeltacowie stations.

Charles Marsh IVES immigrated from Bradfield Hall, near North Walsham in Norfolk, UK to join his elder brother Walter on Oakden Hills Station with Jack & Archie Beavis. At some stage the Beavis brothers sold out to Walter and Charlie Ives who stayed on Oakden Hills until the 1920's.
Charles enlisted in the SA Bushmen 3rd Contingent in Adelaide as a Sergeant under Capt Hubbe. Frank Douglas was their doctor and was a lifelong friend. Capt Hubbe was shot (KIA) and Charles was promoted in the field to Lieutenant to lead the Contingent.
Charles son, Philip Marsh IVES (SX14752) served during WWII in Australia and New Guinea - see separate entry in this website.
During WWII Charles had retired to Victor Harbour but got involved with the VDC, I believe.
