1 Mar 1900:	Embarked Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Bugler, 193, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 463 notes the 3rd Contingent embarked 1 Mar 1900 aboard Duke of Portland arriving at Cape Town 2 Apr 1900.
27 Jul 1900:	Wounded Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Bugler, 193, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 471 notes slightly wounded at Koster River 22 Jul 1900. National Archives Australia= Boer War Dossier notes suffered gunshot wound to head with bullet entering i front of left ear and passing out at the nape of the neck.
23 Jan 1901:	Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 193, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, National Archives Australia- Boer War Dossier notes invalided due to Dysentery and Debility returned to Australia aboard Orient arriving Brisbane 16 Jan 1901, discharged 23 Jan 1901.

Herbert William Keogh served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Bugler (Private) S.N. 193 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, and Second as a Private S.N. 650 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll p. 471 and 518).

During his first service he suffered a gunshot wound to the head but continued with the battle earning him a mention in despatches and the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal (source AWM Honours and Awards).
