Mr. Thomas P. Lyons, who will oppose Mr. Poynton in the Division of Grey in the interests of the United Labor Party, is well known in A.W.U. circles in South Australia. He was born at Morphett Vale in 1873, and was educated at the Mount Gambier public and private schools. For a number of years he was farming at Mount Gambier district, and for the past 19 years he has followed pastoral and farming pursuits. He served in the South Australian Bushmen's Corps in the South African War in 1900-01 and returned to the front again in 902. Four of his brothers have enlisted and gone to the front (WW1). One was killed in Egypt, and the other three are serving in France. Mr. Lyons has been a prominent member of the A.W.U. for some years. He has been vice-president of the Adelaide branch for the past six years, and for the last 2 1/2 years he has been an organiser on the transcontinental railway line. - April 1917
