Frank St.Clair McNish (alt Macnish) served twice in th South African (Boer) War. First in 1900 as a Private (rising to Corporal) S.N. 43 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry. Second in 1902 as a Sergeant S.N. 124 in the 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse.

He was recorded for each service with photo in The Queenslander newspaper in 1900 and 1902 listing the same home address on both occasions, however, his surname was recorded as McNish in 1900 and Macnish in 1902. He was born 30 Jul 1875 at Mount Perry, Qld, a son to Jas Henry Mcnish and Elizabeth McNish (nee Smith). At the time of his enlistments he noted he worked as a Stockman.
