Edward Eugene McNulty
Born 31 July 1876 (though writing 1877 on his AIF Attestation papers in 1915) in Cooktown, to Thomas McNulty and Ellen (nee Hennessy).

Edward had a long association with the military, starting with the No. 3 Qld A.G.A (Australian Garrison Artillery) from 1 February 1897 to 31 May 1904. He served with the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry from 17 February 1900 to 21 June 1901.

From 7th August 1914 to 28 January 1915 her did "Garrison Duty on Thursday Island" (Service Record, National Archives of Australia).
World War 1 saw him join the AIF on 23 February 1915, with service number 1186 and the rank of Private. He was part of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment (8th Reinforcements) that embarked from Brisbane on 16 August 1915, aboard the HMAT Kyarra A55. He disembarked on Mudros Island, and was hospitalised with Malaria. Later suffering Nephritis, he was hospitalised in No. 2AGH (2 Australian General Hospital) at Gezirah Palace Hotel, Gezirah Island (Cairo, Egypt). He was then sent home aboard "Karoola". Edward Eugene McNulty served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW1. His first service was as a Private (rising to Sergeant) S.N. 17 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, Boer War. His second service was as a Sergeant S.N. 1186 in the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, AIF, WW1.
He was born in Cooktown on 29 Jul 1876, a son to Thomas McNulty and Ellen McNulty (nee Hennessey). At the time of his enlistment in WW1 he was single, living at Thursday Island, Qld, and working as a Clerk.
