William John Mulholland was born on 23 Jul 1879 in Queensland, a son to James Mulholland and Sarah Jane Mulholland (nee Jamieson). He married Jemima Ada Beeson on 18 May 1910 at Townsville, Queensland, and they first resided at Lower Burdekin.
He served twice in the South African (Boer) War and again in WW1 with the British Army. First service was as a Private S.N. 298 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Pivate S.N. 75 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Third service was as a Corporal S.N. 36335 in the Y 16th Trench Mortar Battery Royal Field Artillery, British Army, WW1 during which he was killed in action at Belgium in 1917.
Wedding Mulholland-Beeson (The Queenslander, 25 Jun 1910)
A quiet wedding was solemised at St. Joseph's Church, Townsville, on Wednesday, 18 May, when Mr. William John Mulholland, eldest son of Mr. James Mulholland, of Killeen. Lower Burdekin, was married to Miss Ada Beeson, second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Beeson of Sandy Creek, Warwick....
Personal Notes: KIA (The Queenslander, 12 May 1917)
Mrs. Mulholland, of Fig Tree Pocket, Indooroopilly, has recieved the sad news of the death of her husband, Corporal William John Mulholland, who was killed in action on March 8. Corporal Mulholland enlisted in England in the Royal Field Artillery, and has been in France for the last 12 months. The deceased had also seen service in the South African War in 1902.
