Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Walter Naylor first enlisted in 1900 in the 4th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 19 May 1900, he noted his N.O.K. as W. J. Naylor, Worthing, Sussex, England. When he returned invalided from the 4th QIB it was noted in newspaper reports that he was residing at Texas, Qld, prior to going to South Africa. When he re-enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. Naylor, Worthing, Sussex, England.

He returned from South Africa to Queensland with the 5th QIB and was discharged in May 1902. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 132, it notes upon discharge he was residing at O'Connor's Hotel, South Brisbane. This was followed by a note "Now- Augmering, Sussex, England" indicating he had returned to England.
