Daniel Patrick O'Connor served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 48 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, and second as a Corporal S.N. 21 in the 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 480 & 531).
