George Owen would serve twice in the South African (Boer) War and a third time in WW1 at Gallipoli. He first served as a Private S.N. 179 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, second as a Private S.N. 875 in the 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse (Boer) and then the third time as a Private S.N. 1111 in the 1st Infantry Battalion AIF at Gallipoli (WW1). He was severley wounded by a gunshot wound to the chest on 25 April 1914 (the day the landing at Gallipoli commenced), with newspaper reports indicating it occured 8 hours after he landed. He embarked to return to Australia on 5 Jul 1915 and died after suddenly taking ill at Scone Hospital of ruptured stomach ulcer with Peritonitis.
