Christian was the 4th of 7 children of Carl Freidrich Wilhelm Runge (immigrated from Germany to Ipswich, QLD in 1865( and Wilhelmine Charlotte Spann.

Christian was a Labourer in Ipswich QLD when he enlisted in the 1st QLD Mounted Infantry on 1 October 1899 in Brisbane QLD

Following his return from South Africa in 1901, Christian married Emma Esther Farrar in Ipswich, QLD and their first two children were born in Castlemaine, Victoria in 1902 and 1906.

By 1912, Christian and Esther were living in Ipswich, QLD where Christian worked as a Labourer, and by 1936 was a Garage Proprietor
