23 Jun 1902: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Trooper, 609, Doyle’s Australian Scouts, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray P. 508 & 518 notes 6th embarked Durban 17 May 1902 returning to Australia aboard Devon arriving Brisbane 17 Jun 1902, disbanded 23 Jun 1902.

Charles Rush served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 208 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, and second as a Private S.N. 609 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen and also as a Trooper in Doyle's Australian Scouts. He was mentioned in dispatches by Lord Kitchener for his service in Doyle's Scouts.

He remained in South Africa for further service when the 6th QIB returned to Australia, the date of his return and discharge are not given. (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 471 & 518; AWM Honours and Awards).
