Trooper Augustus Egerton Short, n w in camp, who is leaving with the Imperial Bushmen's Corps for South Africa, is a son of Mr. H. A. Short, of Bickham, Paradise, grandson of the late Bishop Short, first Bishop of Adelaide, and of Major Egerton Warburton, C.M.G., many years an officer in the Indian Army. Colonel Charles Short, of the Coldstream Guards, brother of Bishop Short, was an ensign in the Battle of Waterloo. Trooper Short can also claim a military relative on the maternal side in General Robert Newton Phillips, who served in the 43rd Light Infantry through the Kaffir War in 1851-3, and was mentioned in despatches.
