Stanley Cullen-Ward can certainly claim the honor of being the youngest non-commissioned officer in the Imperial Bushmen, and indeed it is highly probable that he is the youngest N.C.O. in the whole British Army. There is also reason to believe that he is actually the youngest soldier among the Australian forces. He hails from Balmain, Sydney, but in spite of his youth he has had considerable bush experience. Both up country and in New Caledonia he has proved himself a good shot and a fearless rider, and his rapid, promotion is the best evidence of his all round qualities. He joined as trooper, but was promoted to the rank of corporal in Sydney, and to that of sergeant before arrival at Beira.
