James Colyer was the son of Sidney William Colyer and Elsie Annie Westwood. He married Anne Yeung in 1936 and had one son, Brian James Colyer.
James was in the RAAF, working as a cook, prior to this he was an accountant in Glenn Innes, and then worked for AGL. He was living in Bondi with his wife and son when he enlisted.
He served in New Guinea and Morotai.
