Sydney was educated at Alumny Creek Public School from October 3, 1921 until December 31, 1929.

Prior to the war he worked with his father on the family farm at Alumy Creek and after the war worked in the building trade in Grafton.

He died on October 22, 1995 and was buried in Clarence Lawn Cemetery, Armidale Road, Grafton, NSW.
