ANOTHER GONE.

[INSERTED BY A.B.]
Robert Devon, Collie Cardiff, killed in action, nothing more, read a telegram, stintly cabled, from the cruel war,
Scanned by many an anxious mother, who had sent her favorite son,
Like the lad from Collie Cardiff, to suppress the wicked Hun.
He sailed away with many thousands of the best the world has seen,
All singing " Tipperary" or "The Wearin' of the Green;"
But he fought and fell for the Union Jack, the emblem of the free,
To terminate this bloody war and vanquish Germany.
For the tender-hearted mothers he hastened to the fray
To fight for girls with glossy curls and widows draped in grey.
Remember, you mothers, wives and sweethearts, he went away to save,
He spent his life in a turmoil of strife — now he sleeps in a soldier's grave.
How he's gone from the scene of battle — he's gone where the seraphs sing,
But he answered the roll when he paid the toll, for his country and his King.
No willow tree weeps where this soldier sleeps, nor has he a lonely grave,
For his comrades dear arc resting near where they fell with the surging braves.
From this land of southern beauty lie went to do his duty,
But he joined the Allied Anegl and we'll meet in Kingdom Come ;
- Where the slanter and the slacker, and the roaring Yarra-banker,
And the socialistic ranter will be treated as the Hun.
You, worthy friends,
You, worldly friends, so many, and enemies if any,
I trust you'll kneel, and fervently will pray
For Robert Devon. Collie Cardiff, killed in action one fine day.
